A famous picture by the American photographer Man Ray shows a close-up of a woman’s face turned upwards, with drops of glass placed on her cheeks to imitate tears. Glass tears – a frozen emotion.
Starting from this image, the choreography gives tears a different, but now moving form. The audience is transported to the land of tears – those shed from despair, sadness and nostalgia, but also those that flow out of love, joy or even anger. The drop serves as a central symbol: a ball with a pointed tip that is just detaching itself from something.
The journey begins through various life forms via the drop and connects them with each other to finally find its way back to the human tear: firstly, the world of minerals and crystalline structures. The drop becomes a rigid, immovable structure that nevertheless appears fragile. Just like a glass tear, the round part of which you can hit with a hammer without damaging it, but which crumbles to dust as soon as you break off even a tiny piece of its tail. The fragility gives rise to an urge to move and structures become living beings, until the human being emerges from the animal, with its thoughts, emotions and hopes. And so the drop bursts the boundaries of form and becomes a symbol of man’s connection.
