ABOUT
Vittoria Girelli (born in Italy, 1997) is a dancer and choreographer. She grew up in Milan where she began working at a very young age at the Piccolo Teatro, taking part in two shows directed by Giorgio Strehler, The Abandoned Doll by A. Sastre – B. Brecht and The Storm by A. Strindberg.
She began her training at the Ballet School Accademia Teatro alla Scala and from 2014 to 2016 she completed her studies at the English National Ballet School in London.
In November 2016 she joined the Stuttgart Ballet and in 2022 was promoted as a demi soloist.
Vittoria performed works from important choreographers such as John Cranko, George Balanchine, Hans Van Manen, Jiří Kylián, Akram Khan, Itzik Galili, Marco Goecke, Demis Volpi, Douglas Lee, Christian Spuck; and artists such as Edward Clug, David Dawson, Johan Inger and Mauro Bigonzetti created new roles for her.
During her time at the English National Ballet School, Vittoria discovered her passion for choreography, which led her to participate in the Choreographic Competition in 2015. In 2020, she received her first commission to create Chrysalis for the Stuttgart Ballet. The following year, she choreographed Kineograph for the Noverre Young Choreographers evening. Since then, she has contributed several works to the Stuttgart Ballet’s repertoire, including Self-Deceit (2022), In Esisto and Sospesi (2023).
Vittoria’s creative scope extends beyond Stuttgart Ballet, having created FORMORIA (2022) for Junior Ballet Zürich under Christian Spuck’s direction, Glass Tears (2024) for Ballet Theater Trier – Roberto Scafati and brought her previous work In Esisto to Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in 2025 under the direction of Eleonora Abbagnato.
Her work was recognized in September 2024 when she received the Best Author Award in Italy and abroad at the Foligno Danza Festival in Italy. Additionally, she presented an excerpt from FORMORIA at Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan as part of the prestigious Gala des Etoiles.
In 2025, she was further honored with the GD Awards – “Stella Italiana all’Estero” by Il Giornale della Danza, and received the Danza&Danza Awards 2025 as Newcomer Choreographer.
Her choreography is often influenced by a wide range of art forms, including sculpture, painting and literature. Vittoria finds inspiration in exploring how artists from different disciplines express their ideas and she integrates these discoveries into her own work.
